Bridge Holidays
Bridge Holidays
Whilst some of us, want to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and leave everyone behind, except the people we have chosen to share our holidays with, others are more sociable and enjoy activities, which need the part taking of others, people they haven’t met before. Of course you meet all sorts of people an holiday, whether you are a hermit or chatterbox, when you go snorkelling, fishing, cruising or horse riding. However, if you are a bridge player, you need 3 other people, well two at least, if you take your partner or a companion. So what better way to meet new people, relax and engage in your favourite past time than go on a bridge holiday.
Whether you are a seasoned bridge player or a relative beginner, bridge holidays suits all ability levels, as tuition is usually part of the package, so that new players can learn, whilst intermediate players can improve on their game. Tuition is always provided by professional players and is to a high standard, though you can be assured of a few good laughs too, as plenty of humour is all part of play. If you are already a very experienced player you might simply want to play as much bridge as possible on your relaxation holiday.
You can be sure that your bridge holiday is run by people, who are passionate about bridge themselves and understand the requirements of a successful holiday, they generally are bridge players themselves. They put together all the equipment, facilities, venues and staff, organise your seminars and make the notes available to you, so you can brush up on your skill with a bit of bed time reading. The organisers tend to have an excellent support team to facilitate your perfect bridge holiday. They will be able to join tables, if there is a shortage of partners, so there are no half tables.
If you holiday with a partner or friend, who does not share passion of bridge playing, most holidays offer alternative activities, such as Bowls or tennis free of charge. If you play bridge on one of the most popular locations – the cruise ship, your partner won’t be short of things to do, whilst still being able to do and see things with you. So, when you enjoy your game, they can go off to be pampered with a relaxing body massage or some alternative holistic treatment, leaving you free to concentrate completely on your bridge.
Search our website for your social holiday, enjoying your passion and being in lovely places with great facilities. A day’s bridge can be followed by enjoying the local culture, exploring the surroundings, sampling new food or having a drink at the bar with all the other players to round off the day. You can expect new friendships, a wider social circle, meeting bridge players from all over the world as well as lasting memories from your bridge holiday. All you have to do is book it. Bridge is a partnership card game. It happens to be the most intriguing card game in the world and because it is so absorbing it can become incredibly addictive. It is rather like chess with cards, involves total concentration, and has its own language called 'bidding'. It is absolutely brilliant as relaxation because when you are thinking about Bridge there simply isn't enough room in your head to be able to think about anything else - guaranteed!
The game is played at many levels from around the kitchen table to international tournaments and aspiring players can achieve club rankings from Club Master to Grand Master, via earning Master Points as a result of achievements in local, national and international events!
Occasionally Bridge is played for money in private gambling clubs - but this is not how Bridge is usually played.
To get to grips with the rudiments of the game it is a great idea to go on a bridge holiday catering for beginners. For more experienced players Bridge holidays are often coupled with golf, bowls, cruises or sightseeing tours to many parts of the world.
Bridge players who have to travel abroad on business will often seek out a club at their destination and email ahead of their visit to arrange for a partner of similar ability to play with them when they arrive. I have done this loads of times and have played in Zurich, Hong Kong, California and a whole host of other places in Europe.
It's a great way to make new friends without necessarily knowing much of their language! If you enjoy playing cards, do give Bridge a try -you will have the hobby of a lifetime and even if you can't always get to a local club to play - there are online clubs where you can join in games from your own laptop.
