Perfumes

Perfumes

Perfumes are the ultimate luxury, when it comes to fragrance products – and the making and designing of a scent is more of an art form than a simple process. Perfumes have been around for millennia in some of the earliest civilisations. Their use has been recorded in Mesopotamia and Egypt, where people had found out, that certain scents attract – a mate, insects etc. Just imagine yourself as that poor Egyptian slave, having to stand in the corner smeared in honey to attract the flies away from your master. We have always known, how powerful the sense of smell is in the animal world, as especially mammals use a huge range to attract mates or even to see enemies off.

Perfumes are basically a mix of essential oils, aroma compounds and substances that bind the compounds together and carry the scent. The odoriferous part, or the bit we can smell, of the perfume can be synthetic or natural. The natural parts, such as musk or honey for instance, are usually extracted from plants or animals, whereas the synthetic parts are compounded in huge laboratories. Until the late 19th century there were only natural scents available, but once the technology was developed to compound scents rather be restricted to single scents, such as vanilla, perfume making took off in a big way.

Perfume is still held in high estimation by most of us. It offers prestige, which is why so many minor celebrities are so keen to lend their name to a fragrance in their search for more fame, and also to be taken more seriously. As a result, there is a myriad of designer perfumes on the market these days and you are literally spoilt for choice. Perfume fragrance products range from the very luxurious and expensive pure perfumes, where literally one drop is enough to keep you fragrant all day, to the more widely used eau de perfumes, eau de Colognes and aftershaves.

Most scents are either overtly floral, earth, woody or oriental, citrusy or fruity. There are scents for women and men for young and old – something for everyone, really. Even Old Spice has made a comeback and is now again one of the most popular fragrance choices for men. A perfume is simply a great choice, if you want to give someone a special gift. There are not only perfumes on offer, but when you search our website you will be amazed by the huge range of gift sets, packs and boxes you can choose from. Many of the gift sets contain other fragrance products, which complement the perfume of your choice beautifully.
