Soaps

Soaps

Amongst fragrance products soap is another oldie, in that it seems to have been around forever, initially just to get clean, scrub off dirt and clean clothes as well. Perhaps you are able to remember those big blocks of glycerine type soap our grandmothers used to scrub the clothes clean in the tub, or perhaps it really is too long ago and you’ll have to make a trip to the museum, to see, what it was like. Soap, like so many other fragrance oldies have come a long way since those days, and the market is ever growing.

Surprisingly with all those liquid soaps, bath oils and bubble baths - the simple bar of soap is still a huge favourite with a lot of us. There are now so many types of soap around, depending whether you are after a certain scent, want a creamy or an opaque bar or need something hypoallergenic. With a rise of alternative treatments and holistic therapies in popularity most of us want more natural, rather than synthetic pamper products, and the soap market has definitely responded to a demand for more nature in skin care. You can now purchase a huge range of hypoallergenic soaps, which are free from parabens, steroids or palm oil whilst having a soothing and therapeutic effect even on skin affected by eczema or psoriasis, as they don’t dry your skin out, but making it soft and looking healthy. And you can still enjoy some great scents and aromas.

So, you won’t be surprised, when you are searching our website, to find a significant amount of companies selling kits to make your own soap – and what better way of knowing exactly what is in your bar of soap and creating the fragrance combination you really want. And it couldn’t be easier. Most places offer melt and pour bases for your soaps with different moulds. A lot of them are 100% vegetable based, something you cannot say of all soaps, and therefore completely suitable for vegetarians to use. There are different types of bases, depending on whether you want for instance an organic soap, a clear or an opaque one or one that doesn’t contain palm oil. Once you have decided on your base you need to choose the fragrance. The fragrance is usually achieved by using cosmetic fragrance oils, which is often a mixture of natural and/or synthetic oils.

Whether you make your own, or you choose from the many exciting and tempting readymade soap bars you will just love the variety of fragrances available – the sheer amount will have you hopping up and down with excitement, and the choosing in itself can be quite an indulgence too. There are aloe vera, blackcurrant, bergamot oil, bubble gum and banana to be had, as well as almond milk, basil, cherry, chocolate, cucumber or the luxurious Patchouli. If that is not enough for you, why not give ginger a go or the old-fashioned, but in popularity rising coal tar! And, if your soap is a pampering gift to a loved one or a friend, why not consider one of the amazing gift boxes or hampers, which also contain bath oils, body lotions and face creams, for instance, to complement your chosen soap.
