Spirituality without religion

What did you expect to find when you visited this page?    Not sure?  Well to be honest, for quite a while I didn't know either!    The only thing that I was sure about is that on a website dedicated to relaxation, peace, purpose, self-realisation and connection to others, spirituality has to be included somewhere.
My problem was how to include 'spirituality' without appearing nuts, cranky, anti-religions, outrageously alternative  - or turning people off!    I am just a 'normal' person becoming ever more curious about my existence.  I love life and wonder how many other people there are 'out there', feeling the same as I do, who are looking for freedom to explore their own spirituality!

For a while now I have been dipping into the internet searching - unsuccessfully- to find some group or circle of people in the Midlands, where I live, who meet to discuss spirituality, in a totally non-religious context.  I unearthed a lot of really terrific stuff going on in London - but 100 miles is a long way to travel for regular evening meet-ups!

I did find quite a number of religious links, but I don't want to be part of a formal religion or religious group any more.  I had church connections for many years but it feels too restricting and dogmatic for me now.  In a formal church service I find myself thinking 'I'm not enjoying this experience, it doesn't feel right - what am I doing here?'    But at the same time I do also feel that I need a spiritual 'something' in my life.

I would love to get together occasionally or even regularly in a comfortable setting to explore spiritual experiences with open-minded people.  In my imagination, physicists, philosophers, musicians, holistic therapists, doctors, carpenters, healers, housewives, train drivers, stressed-up business people and travellers, in fact anyone who feels they want to learn more and talk more with like-minded people about this fantastic life and what it's all about, would turn up!    It would be great to hear contributions and encouraging input from personal life experiences and philosophies of other people who also feel they have something spiritual to learn or to share.  Who knows - someone could even turn up to explain Stephen Hawkings 11 dimensions - now where does spirituality fit with all of that?

If I am making sense, if some of this resonates with you, then we have the makings of building an informal network of get-togethers to enable all of this to happen nationwide.

At the time of writing, the just-relaxandunwind site is still in development stage, but a small miracle has happened.    I have received an email, completely 'out of the blue' from a woman called Julie in NE England.   Julie has written, and I quote " I am searching for a spiritual group that I can join as I feel an emptiness and lack of spiritual fulfilment in my otherwise very happy life  - could you (just-relaxandunwind.co.uk) be what I am looking for?"   I could hardly believe my eyes!  Nothing could have encouraged me more to write this page!   I have exchanged some correspondence with Julie and find she is a musician, a therapist and healer and she believes that she knows several people in her area who would be interested in forming a group to advance non-religious spiritual growth.

Could it be that many people throughout the country will want to look to starting a similar group in their own area?   You tell me!   If so, it will be possible to 'advertise'  contact details in the 'Discussion Groups' section of this website.   If you wish to be included then send me an email with your contact details and a few lines about yourself to Justrelaxunwind@aol.com  and if suitable, I will publish them on the site.    If you already belong to a group that you think would be appropriate to include on the website and have a website of your own to link to, then again, please let me know.  I would also like to hear from anyone having a comfortable and relaxing venue suitable for hosting an event linked to spirituality.  It will also be good to hear from persons who would be interested to give talks on topics related to spirituality.

Judith tells me that the Buddhists have a saying 'Life Happens Perfectly'.  If all of this is meant to happen it will!   We're excited about the possibilities!
