Sports (Swedish) Massage
Sports massage formerly known as Swedish massage is a technique that uses presssure to manipulate soft tissue. Swedish Massage was deleloped in the 1700s by a Swedish physiologist and fencing master Per Henrik Ling and involves:-
Gliding strokes Kneading movements Circular pressure of the hand and fingers Vibratory movements Brisk tapping Bending and stretching
What is it used for?
To improve :suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints, blood circulation and speed up of the healing of damaged or stressed muscles, joints and tissues and to prevent future muscle and tendon injuries.
How is it done? The therapy is carried out directly on the skin on a massage couch and depending on the nature of the condition can take from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

This can be quite a vigorous massage. It should not be used if you have any open wounds, muscle tears, sprained ligaments or burns, varicose veins, phlebitis, thrombosis, cancer, tumours, melanoma, haemophilia, fungal infections or herpes.
