Description

The Sharpham Trust, based on the Sharpham estate, was founded in 1984 by Ruth and Maurice Ash. The estate itself comprises 550 acres of sustainably farmed land following a three mile stretch of the River Dart. Sharpham House dating back to 1770, set in a Capability Brown Landscape is the base for a diversity of projects constituting a balance of practical endeavours with spiritual enquiry.

The aims of the Sharpham Trust are:

To maintain, conserve and enhance the land, buildings, resources and bio-diversity of its estate for public benefit. To provide opportunities for physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual learning; through activity, reflection, creativity and enquiry.

Sharpham Centre is located in Sharpham House, a Palladian style mansion set in a Capability Brown landscape on the Sharpham Estate. The estate comprises 550 acres of sustainably farmed land following a three-mile stretch of the river Dart. It is home to a diverse range of activities which are linked by a shared sense of values.

  • Sharpham Centre for Contemporary Buddhist Enquiry is a unique non-sectarian environment within Britain for enquiry into the place of Buddhist values in the modern world.
  • The Centre offers a full range of teachings, both practical and theoretical, directed at how we are to live ethically and morally in the contemporary world.
  • Great emphasis is placed on the value of Buddhist practice in revealing our interconnectedness with, and responsibility for, others.
  • The Centre is committed to the value of Buddhist enquiry in stimulating personal and social change.
Donations or Dana In keeping with Buddhist tradition some of our courses charge only for the use of the house, gardens and facilities at Sharpham; the teachers are not paid. Therefore there is an opportunity to offer dana (a donation) to them after the class. In some cases we have stated a suggested amount – this is as a guide only, please offer what you can afford.
