Walking Holidays

Walking Holidays
Not only is it the most natural form of human forward movement – walking is also the most popular, loved and biggest leisure activity for people in the UK. Anyone can put on their walking boots and just go, where their feet take them. The beauty of walking is, that everyone can do it, as there is no minimum level of ability or fitness to enjoy this widespread free time activity. So, if you want to enjoy an activity holiday this year, but don’t fancy high octane sporty type activities, such as running, cycling or climbing, you can always enjoy a walking holiday – pursuing a gentle, but no less demanding and potentially challenging activity.
There are many people, who consider going on a walking holiday for the first time for different reasons – they want the family to get fit, they are single and want to meet other singles, who enjoy walking, or they want to go on holiday with their friends from their local women’s walking club – whatever your reasons to try out a walking holiday, you won’t regret it, and may even start a habit of lifetime, meet a life partner, make a whole host of new friends or change the way your family holidays forever.
Alternatively you might already be a seasoned walker, who wants to explore more walking locations and stunning scenery up the hills and down the valleys both in the UK and Europe as well as all over the world. There are great walks to be had everywhere and the choice of destinations is exciting and very diverse, whether you are after exotic locations or want to discover new places and hidden gems, the fall of the Berlin Wall has opened up in Eastern Europe. What all these places have in common is their beautiful surroundings and spectacular landscapes and countryside.
Whether you go on your own, with your friends or family there is a huge variety of walking holidays to choose from. Guided walking holidays are enjoying an increasing popularity as you can relax and let someone else do the organising of the route and fabulous accommodation. If you crave more independence, then there are plenty of self guided walking holidays on offer, often supported by comprehensive information packs, which include maps, walking notes and information on local attractions and facilities - all with the freedom to walk at your own pace and take in the sightseeing and exploring of your choice. You can even pick your walks according to the degree of difficulty you desire, many walks being graded between 1 and 5.
And at the end of the day, you might just want that bit of luxury for your relaxation, that an organised holiday affords you – great food, a pint or a nice glass of wine, as well as great facilities to detox and relax, such a sauna or a swimming pool, or some holistic treatments, massages or even retail therapy (depending on your location – of course!). Walking is a great activity to both keep you fit and relax you – you are guaranteed to be inspired by your surroundings and whatever history you might discover during any sightseeing, whilst also having a highly satisfactory holiday experience.

There is something completely liberating about walking holidays.  Well the ones I choose are!  Picture an 'off the beaten track' small hotel or guest house in an idyllic location where you can pull on your walking boots and just 'go'.    If you're lucky they will have guided circular walks planned in advance and can organise a landrover to meet you around lunchtime with the picnic that you didn't have to carry!

There may well be hot tubs on the balconies to relax with a drink, take the ache out of your feet and just relax and unwind when you get back.   Often they'll offer communal dinner, nothing formal -  relaxation clothing, great conversation, vintage wine, early to bed - total relaxation.    Not your idea of a walking holiday?   Well - no matter, don't be discouraged!   Whether you take your walking easily or very seriously, on your own or in company you'll find some amazing places here to enjoy and to match your levels of enthusiasm and stamina!
